While 'The Red Path' is, strictly speaking, a collection of eight original digital stories, it was always designed to dovetail together as a single story. Some readers have criticised it for being too fractured and effectively slipping into 'bolter porn' - an excess of violence over characterisation - but that has far more to do with the format in which it had to be written than any real lack of imagination or control on my part. I am very happy with 'The Red Path', and owe a debt of thanks to my editor Michael Wieske, who shared the extreme pressure we were under to get it released in time - and endured some of my very worst puns (ask him about 'Kharnage' some time...)
